May  Scripture:  Please go over scripture each week with the motions

"We have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!" I Samuel 17:1-50
Motions:  ‘We (point to chest with both thumbs) have the Lord our God (both hands pointing up) to help (right arm up as a muscle) us and to fight (left arm up as a muscle) our battles (cross arms in an “X” in front of your body with closed fists) for us’ (point to chest with both thumbs), 2 Chronicles 32:8 (hold out hands like a book).

Prayer Time: #1 in our top 10:   Ask the kids what you can pray about and lead them in prayer about their personal requests.

Bible Story: (found under Make it True )This week's story is about David being chosen as the King by Samuel.  God asked Samuel to go out and look for the person to become the next King.  After going through 7 people God had still not said "yes."  Finally he asked Jesse if he had any more sons and Jesse said yes, little David.  God said David was the one, for he had a heart for God.
  • There will be a crown in the resource room you can use for story telling.
  • Pick out 7 kids and a Samuel and David to sort of re-enact the story.  This will be impactful for the kids.
  • They can see that God helped Samuel find the king and God will help David be a good king.  God can help us in our lives where we need help also!

Activities:  (Make it Stick and Make it Fun) Since we have music I would keep the activities simple. These can be done before or after the story-but emphasize why we are doing them, to help reinforce the story and message.

  •  Seven times- no props needed, easy.  Reinforces the asking of 7 brothers to be king
  • Guess who-a fun game that emphasizes trying to look for someone..as Samuel was looking for a king.
  • Find it-hide things around the room.  Also emphasizes looking for someone like a king. (You can provide the things you might want to hide around the room.)
  • God helps me activity sheets-I like this as it applies the Bible truth to their life and is easy to do.  It shows scenes the kids describe where they might need God's help.  (I will have the copies of this sheet along with card stock in the resource room for you.).

May 24th,  God helps me do big things.

Announcements:
  • NO announcements.  We are nearing the end!!!
  • NO music this week.
Curriculum:  Week 4(May 24th) of 5: I Samuel 17:1-50.  David and Goliath.  God helps me do big things.
We are doing a "mini unit" for the next two weeks that parallels and supports the theme we have been talking about for May:  God gives us helpers. This week's story is David and Goliath and next week is "David is chosen to be the king."

Theme for this week:  God can help me do big things even when I am scared.

Prayer Time: #1 in our top 10:   Ask the kids what you can pray about and lead them in prayer about their personal requests.

Bible Story: (found under Make it True )This week's story is about David and Goliath.  Even though David was a small boy God helped him do big things. (**Note-the story in the curriculum talks about David being chosen as  a King.  We are doing this story next week, so skip that part for now.)  God wants to help each of us with things we face in our lives, but we need to seek Him out!

Activities:  (Make it Stick and Make it Fun) This great story has some awesome activities to do.  We have plenty of bean bags and buckets I can round up for you.

  •  Best Shot and Bean Bag game:  Fun and easy games that use bean bags, which we have plenty of.
  •  Play-doh stones-I will have clay or  play-doh they can use to make the stones and we have ziploc bags.  I will have labels they can put on the bags.
  • Rock painting-I don't have any rocks here to paint, but maybe you have some in your yard.  We do have paints.

May  Scripture:  Please go over scripture each week with the motions

"Be kind and loving to each other"  Ephesians 4:32
Motions:  Be kind (smile, tilt your head, and point to your cheeks) and loving (give yourself a  big hug) to (show two fingers in front of you) each other (point around the room to everyone.)

Prayer Time: #1 in our top 10:   Ask the kids what you can pray about and lead them in prayer about their personal requests.

Bible Story: (found under Make it True )This week's story is about Jonathan and David. They are good friends, but Jonathan's dad, King Saul, does not like David.  They make a plan to keep David safe.  God gives us good friends to help us.

Activities:  (Make it Stick and Make it Fun)

There are actually not a lot of great activity options this week.  I like "We are friends" the best, since it can be a group activity. BFF bracelets would also be fun and we have plenty of supplies to make bracelets.
  • BFF Hearts- This is cute but could really be combined with the "We are friends" activity.  Children could decorate a heart with there name and with a friends name and paste on the large art paper.
  • We are friends-see my comments above about BFF hearts.  This looks like a great group craft you could do easily on a day that you have music.
  • BFF Bracelets-We have lots of beads and string to make bracelets.

Bible Story: (found under Make it True )This week's story plays off of last week and as you tell it you can still act in the role of "momma Naomi."  I have some wheat (I have done my own bread baking) that I can bring in and the kids can see it, touch it, etc.  Should be a good-easy story.

Activities:  (Make it Stick and Make it Fun)

Love the first two game activities this week....they are different...the craft is cute as well and may be well suited for those who like crafts.
  • Colored grain game-We have lots of tissue squares and this would be easy and fun!
  • Find the food scavenger hunt.  There is food in all of the rooms, so this also would be easy to do.  Maybe everyone could collect 3 items or something...
  • Grain Basket-I will have a basket picture available to copy if you like.  You can use some of the grain I bring in or rice.
